Abstract

The present article was born from a work of the discipline Approximation to the Professional Environment 3 of the degree course in History at Faculdade Unyleya. The guideline was for students to make a relationship of Brazilian cultural manifestation with some of the subjects of the 4th period of the course. When I came across the article Medieval History and looked at an image by the painter Rembrandt, I noticed a detail in the right corner: a drum player. It was the trigger to start the research on that drum and its ramification or improvement until it became a specific instrument as we know it today, the snare drum. It is widely used in numerous national popular demonstrations. And why war chest? The reason was precisely to make the list requested in the discipline's statements and reveal that something initially forged for war functions, of aid in battlefields, became a diametrically opposed item for which it was created. It is the box that guides the rhythmic pulse of popular festivals, of the samba school parades. Created for the processions in conflagrated regions that took men to death, the box in contemporary times removes misery and ills through its touches, propelling bodies towards ecstasy and joy. The caixa de guerra makes it's party!
